Name That Hose (identifying leak in 1993 S4)

[This is my first post to this list since I unsubscribed 4 1/2 years ago, so
my apologies if I've screwed something up, now that I have resubscribed.
And I'm decidedly not mechanically inclined, nor do I generally speak the
insiders' language, so I hpe you will be patient and excuse any
imprecise/incorrect descriptions.]

Symptoms: Immediately afer starting my car about 2 weeks ago I noticed that
brownish [?] fluid appeared to be spraying under pressure from approximately
under the rear passenger door.

Observations: Two days ago I jacked the car up for a quick look. Through a
space where the plastic sheathing on the rear passenger underside was
partially detached from the car I saw three thin hoses running approximately
parallel to the length of the car. The hose nearest to the right side of
the car appeared to have been compromised, where it bent upwards, with what
looked like woven metal (stainless?) exposed under the rubber sheathing.

Can anyone tell me what fluid this is (transmission?), and what I might
expect to pay (for the part and for the labor) to have the hose replaced
once I have it towed to my dealer?

Since I've started subscribing only to the digest, being concerned about the
volume of messages that might be routinely generated by this list (one of
the main reasons I unsubscribed years ago), private responses to me at
larrybard at hotmail.com would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Larry

P.S. Was surprised to see how many familiar names I recognized in a quick
skimming of list archives.
