German Cup holders

In my wife's 97 Outback, I figured it was an afterthought because of
location. Since we Americans must be able to "multi-task" (eat, drink,
talk, fax and email all at the same time). (In a sarcastic tone) I thought
the new 2000-2004's had their holders in the center console like my 91
200q20v, but wider to accommodate the "Big Gulps" and a little forward.
Haven't seen the interior of the 05 yet. Anyone to comment on them?
Steve

It must be a Subaru design parameter, b/c my 90 Legacy beater had
it's flimsy cupholder in the same location as Taka's. I actually think
that Subie was trying to make sure that the cup was within visual
range, rather than trying to warm/cool the cup. So instead, you couldn't
see the clock, nor radio display when the cupholder was loaded.
