intermittent climate control fan 90 200TQ

You have the dreaded heater blower motor brush failure in
the type 44. Generally tends to occur around 120K miles.
The proper fix is to replace the blower motor (and since the
task is not exactly simple, it's time consuming, while you're
in there, the heater core), check archives under "steak knife",
there is a TEMPORARY fix. If you lift the plenum cover (careful,
that plastic is BRITTLE, especially in cold temps!) you'll see the
actual blower box in the cowling. Towards the driver's side of the
box, you'll find a cylindrical looking thing, whose axis runs across
the car. That's the blower motor. Now, if you look carefully, you'll
find a rubber hose elbow, that comes out of the blower box and
ends at the motor. I have no idea what that hose does (send cool
or warm air to the motor commutator?) That's what you're looking for.
If you remove the motor end of the hose, you'll be looking right at
the back side of ONE of the two motor brushes. Using the eraser
end of a pencil, press the brush further against the commutator until
the motor begins to work reliably. Reconnect hose, etc, assy is the
reverse of removal. This kludge seemed to work for me for an entire
winter until I was able to work on replacing the blower motor in the
"comfort" of summer.
