Bad puppy is no more

Ah, but I had a secret weapon - the excellent '67 1500 cc engine with the
forged crank. The car would top out at 80 mph (with a bit of a tailwind :o).
I still have that engine in parts in the basement - after many many miles of
service it began leaking oil from every seam and gasket, so I pulled it
apart to reseal it. It looked like brand new inside - no measurable cylinder
wear, no bearing wear, nice and clean with no sludge build-up. I never did
get around to putting it together ( installed a 1600 cc dual port engine - a
dog by comparison) and when I liquidated all my bugs & parts, I was so fond
of the old 1500 I kept it. One of these days I'll get around to putting it
back together ...

That must have been a l-o-n-g downhill run. My '65 Bug
would barely break 70.
