The 2-4 shift servo fails. The servo has two large packing washers in it, one of the washers will shatter and the transmission will have flares when it attempts to engage 4th gear. It will get progressively worse. When the pieces of washer fall out of place they will jam servo movement and it will lose 4th gear completely. Second gear will begin to slip at that point and if not fixed it will burn the 2-4 brake band.
The shift servo is $23.00 from a ZF supplier. It takes about 1.5 hrs to fix on a lift, more with jack-stands. The trans. is fixed in situ.
This usually happen around 85k miles in my experience

>I was looking up a '95 A6q on carpoint.com. Under reliability it says:

"An occasional problem on this vehicle is failure of the Automatic
Transmission. The cost to repair the Automatic Transmission is estimated at
$80.00 for parts and $520.00 for labor."

What are they talking about? What costs $80 and takes $520 labor to replace?<
