gas tank replacement

I've been battling this problem for a long time with my '86 4kq. I investigated fuel cells, but came to the conclusion that
from a labor standpoint it was just a lot more cost-effective to fix the stock tank than to have to drum up supply and
return lines, a vent line, a filler tube, brackets, etc, for the fuel cell.
The in-tank screen ("sock") is the problem. On the working tank that I have, I drained it, removed it, used the
three-step POR-15 kit (www.por15.com) to clean and seal the inside, cut open the bottom of the tank, pulled off the
screen from the end of the supply line, welded the bottom of the tank back up, then used "POR Patch" (thicker version
of their standard product) to seal up the bottom from the outside.
Haven't had a problem since. Car drives like a champ.
Hope that helps,
Matt
