IMHE most of them had blown Automatic transmissions, others had been in
accidents. I suspect that automatics must have outsold stick shift type
44's at least 4-1, but now (excluding the V8Q's that only had a piddling
150 or so US 5spds sold) the sticks outnumber the automatics still on the
road by the same ratio. Luxury car = Automatic Transmission to most new
car buyers.
