A friend's BTDT: Patient 84 4kq, many many miles. Freeway speed, 1am. Bolt
falls from who knows where, fouls timing belt, snaps belt. Car coasts to a
stop. Gets towed to nearest hotel, sleeps it off. Go get timing belt, set
timing marks correctly, fire it off and go home. *Not* an interference
engine, happily.
BTW, I have done a number of timing belts, and oh the horror! I usually
don't use any sort of crank locking device. Craftsman 1/2" 450 ft-lb impact
almost always does the job. Once, one was clearly overtorqued, we locked
the crank with a homemade unit, and used a six foot cheater to crack the
offender loose.
Good luck!
