Timing Belt change on '94 90 Quattro

it's a good idea to replace the pump since you are in there. water
pumps and timing belts are usually changed together. cheap insurance.

i dont know much about water pumps but i would think that if it seized
the engine would then overheat and seize or damage itself, although huw
and marc did manage to run a 4kq engine for about 20 minutes without
oil or coolant :)
if the belt snaps and you have a non-interference engine, you just have
to replace the belt. if it's an interference engine, valves and piston
may collide and then it's all up to the gods...
poking around on the internet, it looks like the AAH is not an
interference engine, but others here will know better than myself.
