LAC: Buying a car in Pennsylvania

Steve-
If you live out of state and buy a car in PA, technically the title
needs to be transferred with a notary. When it comes to in-state
transactions (both buyer and seller live in PA), if you don't do that,
it becomes a major issue.

If the car is going out of state, it's not that big of a deal.

You'll need a transit tag to bring the car out of state, make sure you
get that- it's a 30-day temporary paper tag that will allow you to
drive to your home state and have it registered there.

You'll also need the PA MV-2 form that serves as your temporary
registration until you have the car back home- goes with the transit
tag. If you have the ability in your home state to register the car
and get a tag prior to the actual sale, then you don't need all of
this.

PA sales are pretty simple- get a bill of sale, you pay sales tax in
your home state, the title will have to be sent to your home DMV and
reissued in your state.
