T-stat 84 coupe GT

Hey Listers ,

Keith here in Las Vegas. I have an 84 cGT and I am looking for the t-stat to 
check it out for wear. It seems to stay closed until the engine seems too 
warm. I disconnected both hoses going into the engine from the radiator. 
Does that metallic funnel-like piece need to be unbolted ? I see two of them 
that both the upper and lower hoses get clamped onto. We have been at 
115-117 for this past week and I don`t want to overheat.
