rebuilt drive shafts

YMMV, but I once tried a little driveshaft shop when I
lived in Raleigh, NC.
I wasn't impressed. It's like John Larson said,
clean, regrease and reboot.
They _might_ have used a Dremel tool on the casting to
smooth out the ruts but it is too long ago for me to
recall.
I DO recall that they used cheap parts in bulk. So,
don't expect much from them in the way of OE spec
parts (I.E. Lobro).
I think I will be replacing a driveshaft on one of my
'98 Jettas soon, as the last time I had that car apart
I noted one of the DSfts was a non-VAG part...and I
heard noises on that car on hard left turns. Mrs. M
drives that car and she does not pick up on the subtle
things.
Last time I had DS problems on my '93 100 I just bit
the bullet and got a new Lobro outer CV joint at the
local Euro parts emporium. AutoZone could allegedly
get a rebuilt DS, but when push came to shove, their
rebuilder had none on the shelf even though the AZ
computer said they did...
Wonder what they do in the big rebuilding
plants...same sort of stuff they do in the little shop
in Raleigh?
