Cheaper firewall fix?

There is a cheaper fix...
Buy a donor car with an uncracked firewall, and remove a sizeable chunk
of the firewall containing the clutch master mount. Spend several days
removing the brake booster, master cylinder, pedal assemblies, carpet,
and two wiriing harnesses.
Pay a master welder to weld in the donor part over the existing part.
Pay a painter to correctly match paint on the firewall and engine
compartment. Might as well remove the engine/transmission to paint.
Then decide there is too much rust on the floor pan and strip the car
to it's shell. Have the shell hauled 1000 miles away to be chemically
stripped, acid etched and primed. Then buy another car for parts as
you've lost half of them. Get the shell back and let it sit in your
garage for a few years as you've graduated from college, and have had
to get a real job, and after working 10 hours a day you don't quite
feel like fixing the car, while telling yourself that you'll need
something to do when you retire in 30 years...
Maybe it's not as cheap as I thought... Anyone in the market for a few
acres of 4000 quattro parts?
