John,

I totally agree with you. When I worked in the trade, I always had  
miserable luck with rebuilt axles. Given that one new cv joint costs  
as much as a rebuild axle, I can't see how they're properly  
rebuilding them for the price they charge.

On my own vehicles, I always just re-boot them, and replace failed  
joints with new ones.
