Grease effects torque values?!

Well, they can be kept clean - most fasteners do not have oilways where 
they are threaded.  Anyway... brake cleaner is pretty good for 
degreasing, though a bit wasteful.  A cheap can of solvent (used 
carefully, outdoors, well vented, etc.!) and a toothbrush or two will 
usually do a nice job of cleaning up parts and hardware prior to 
reassembly.  Basically a poor man's parts cleaner.
