Window film

Bit of a crime spree around here this last week - moron robbed a bank I do
business with, got caught 15 minutes later and said "You guys are a lot
faster than the cops in Ohio . . . " (can you guess what they are going to
be asking him to clarify?)

Then some low-lifes decided to play smash and grab with car windows - at a
local HOSPITAL - as if visitors to a hospital haven't got enough troubles
already.

Anyway, I am now thinking along the lines of security window film. I know
the sun-protection film is only a slight improvement, and I can't find a
price anywhere for Shatterguard, which is the plastic film they are putting
on Humvees in Iraq these days. I'm not too worried about shrapnel here in
Ormond Beach, Florida, but there *have* been some incidents as above that
make me think having a little more security might not be a bad idea.

I can (probably) do this myself, taking off the door panels (good
opportunity to clean and lube the door gizzies and window pulleys), and so
forth -

So my question is this - what is the experience of the list with window
films? I'm thinking a light tint (don't wanna look like Vinnie and Bruno's
limo service), but security is equally as important as glare control.

Ideas? Comments? Cautions? Gotchas?
