Time to look through your wiring diagram for this car and find the common point of failure. If your Fuel Pump is not relayed, I suspect you have at least one burned socket in your underdash wiring. Ignition switch may also be suspect - if I recall correctly, there is a dual feed inside the switch itself - one to track 15 and one to a load reduction relay, with variations on the theme depending upon make, year, and model. This may explain why some ancillaries get power and some not. I thin lights have power all the time, although the main driving lights are only enabled with ignition on.

Further checking - does the engine begin to start when starter engaged and cranking then die as soon as switch returned to run position - that would point to the ign/ swith itself.

Today after I parked to go into the Sears "tool Center", my Audi '82 CGT
refused to start and I had to suffer the "indignity" of a tow. Hope someone can
help me, it is cold and wet here so I am hoping diagnostic time will be short.

Symptoms:

1. Fuel pump not running (felt it for vibration)

2, Dash gauges, temp and gas, not working. Auxiliary gauges in lower pod
working.

3. Directionals not working, headlights do.

4. Cranks freely and spins at good speed.

There was no warning with this one. It was running fine when I parked it, but
wouldn't start when I came back. (I was in Sears getting bolt extractors for
one of my other Audis)
