Timing belt idler pulley (4kq)

I'm reaching back into the dim recesses of my memory here (from the days
long ago when I owned a '86 5ktq) but if this idler pulley is the same as
that on the old I5 10V turbo, there is an easier way to get the pulley off.
If you look closely at the idler pulley, you'll note that the bolt is
smaller diameter than the hole in the pulley and the hole in the pulley is
threaded. You can match up a bolt to the threaded section. This gives you a
couple of removal options. You can insert the bolt through a plate that is
held away from the block on standoffs, thread the bolt into the pulley, and
remove it that way. I think I slid a short piece of rod into the hole for
the bolt to bear on, and extracted the pulley by threading in a bolt. The
new pulley goes in easier if you leave it in the freezer for a few hours and
drive it in while it is cold. Don't try to pull it in with the bolt or
you'll snap off the bolt.

I'd be wary of this approach, that bolt is very thin(m6?), and won't take
much torque before shearing off in the oil pump housing. Try and lever the
idler roller off with two prybars first if you've got the option. They
usually jump off with a little coaxing.
