Sounds like you have lost the switching signal on the negative side of the coil. If you have lost it, check the hall sensor and all of your connections. To check for it, use a test light and crank the engine over. The light should flash while cranking.

Anyone have any tips for me to get my 4KS going again? I really miss driving
it in the mountains. It seems some of the wiring in the car shows in the
Bentley manual for 1986, but anyone that would be able to help me would
probably know, they arent exactly the easiest to work on the wiring.
1985 4000S 1.8L 5sp It started missing at speed, getting progressively worse
on my way home, then would only sputter next time i tried starting it. I
replaced the distributor with a Jetta one i found, cuz i couldn't get the
pin out to just replace the hall sender. Started right up, timed it, and
went for a couple nice drives that weekend, then it just quit on me, no
spark again, and this time the fuel pump wont run when i turn the key on.
I've replaced the ignition switch, fuel pump relay, ECM, coil... and yes,
the fuel pump works when i jumper the terminals at the relay. I have 12v at
the coil, ECM, fuel pump relay, and have copies of the wiring diagrams for
this area from a Bentley manual, car specific.
Is there anyone that has a little bit of time to help walk me thru some
diagnosing so that i can once again enjoy driving my Audi? Thank You
Audifans for being here :) AMN3ZIA
