FWIW, I think they should take Mr. Allen and Mr. Triple Square behind the
woodshed and beat them about the head and shoulders until they beg for 
mercy for coming up with such a strip prone fastener/tool system.

its all about the cost of realestate under those ever increasingly 
cramped hood areas.  allens (cap screw) and triple squares take up less 
space than a hex head.  not that i love them any more than you.  i do have 
to say that the ones the automotive companies use are lower grade and more 
prone to stipping than the industrial ones i usually see.
