PS on the PCV question

I would suggest doing what you spoke of at the end of your last note - 
replacing all the vacuum hose/crankcase vent bits of rubber with new.

There are the two 4-way molded bits (the one that holds the ISV and the 
one that collapses under vacuum - can use a spring in that to hold it 
open) and a meter or so each of small and large cloth covered vacuum 
hose.  Chuck the sender for the upshift light in the line to the 
distributor, if it's in there (for simplicity).  Check your vacuum 
advance can to make sure it doesn't leak and works.  make sure 
everything is sealed up well, including the igloo "hose" thing.

A new rubber cam cover gasket is cheap, and easy to install while some 
of those hoses are out of the way.  The torque on those nuts is very 
low, be careful there.

You may find your problems miraculously vanish.  If not, at least you 
know what can't be the problem.
