Diagnosis Codes on 89 Audi 200 Turbo, NonQ, Autom.

Well, today my hubby tried to do some diagnosis and he cannot get
any of the diagnosis code methods to respond.

No blinking lights etc.

I am starting to wonder whether the mechanic did something to
my car so that the codes won't work.

Does anyone know what might be wrong and how to fix it??????
