oxymoron: dry snow tire?

I've never used them, but I have seen some new tire "chains" that look
pretty compact and are not actually chains but thick wire cables.
Winter tires have a compound that is designed to optimize grip in cold
weather so an all season type tires will be a compromise all seasons.
If others here can vouch for these new tire chains, it could be an
option.
