Alarm system

When attempting to lock the doors from either the  driver or passenger door the other three doors do not lock as they  normally should.  When locking from the trunk or the inside driver  switch the doors lock correctly.  Any ideas where the problem  might be???.  Also where is the alarm control unit located on this  vehicle, 1995 A6??.
