Alarm system

Jim,
The alarm control unit is under the rear seat, next to the battery,
hidden inside a block of foam that silences the operation of the
vacuum pump.
When you lock/unlock from one of the doors, the key operates the door
lock, and a contact is made to a circuit that goes to the alarm/control
unit, and the unit activates the vacuum pump to lock/unlock the other
doors. The same circuit goes to the trunk lock, so if it works from
the trunk lock that circuit and the alarm control unit are probably
working fine.
Your most likely culprit are the contacts on the door lock itself,
or the wiring harness where it passes from the door to the body.
Just the right broken wire in that harness could have this effect,
but it is strange that exactly the same wire is broken in both doors,
and no other wires are broken. The other wires are for window operation
and speakers in the doors.
How are the power windows working?
1) Does the "comfort close" feature work?
Open all four windows (and sunroof) part way.
Put key in door lock, turn key to lock and hold it there.
The windows should roll up and the sunroof should close.
2) From the driver's door window controls, can you control the other
door's windows correctly?

When locking from the trunk or the inside driver switch the doors lock correctly. Any ideas where the problem might be???. Also where is the alarm control unit located on this vehicle, 1995 A6??.
