Legal to import Audis from Canada into the US/California?

Most cars imported into North America, and Canada is in the northern part of
NA ;-), are built to California standards. Individual models and manufacturers
do vary, so one would have to research the specific auto. When recently
importing a Jag into Canada I just had to find out whether the specific auto
had all the safety recalls performed on it. It will then of course have to
pass the emissions test and safety check before I can register it.
