considering a 2000 or 2001 A4 Avant

Touchy, touchy- I guess I was being too sarcastic- I was not talking about
throttle lag waiting for the transmission
to kick down when passing.

I was specifically talking about from a standing start. The combination of
tiptronic and 1.8T in every single Audi that
I've driven, quattro and FWD, both standard automatics and CVTs, all suffer
from massive throttle lag at a standing
start. So much so that if you tried to pull out into traffic giving enough
space for most cars to be able to pull out safely
on to the road, you don't have enough space.

The combo of tiptronic and 1.8T for whatever reason has so much lag that it
literally takes a good second for the car to
do anything at all. IMHO, this is a deadly flaw in the car. For that reason
alone, I would not buy one- the 2.8 V-6, the
3.0 V-6 and the 3.2 V-6 do not have this problem.
