Diesel Donor car (NAC)

I'm thinking about building a Diesel powered emergency generator -
just in case.
I can buy an 1,800 rpm generator head (which I understand is superior
and longer lasting than the 3,600 rpm items) which will give me 10 to
15 KW, which will require 13 to 20 hp (with 750 watts = 1 hp) to drive it.
I was thinking (take cover!) that if I found a banged up Diesel
Rabbit, that would give me a complete Diesel power package - engine,
radiator, starter, fuel system, exhaust system, complete, and I just
get to put this onto an angle-iron stand and connect the power head
to the flywheel - and away we go.
Hopefully, the Rabbit motor will give 20 hp or so at 1,800 rpm.
Anyway, I'm looking for input here on two subjects - one, is this a
particularly practical idea to start with? Are there any
show-stoppers here? Two, are there any other possible donor cars - I
know there was a 4K Diesel (there's the Audi content!) and I've even
seen one in a junkyard (years ago), but what other small Diesel cars
are there which are cheap, rusty and not terribly hard to find?
(One advantage of buying a complete car is that the parts I need are
"self delivering" - it's already on wheels and can be towed!
