Mike, I have a small Kubota diesel tractor with a small three cylinder 18 
hp engine which might suit your purpose well.  No - it's not for sale.  I 
still use it frequently.  You might even rig up a three point hitch for 
your generator and operate it from the tractor's PTO.  It might take a bit 
of gearing work to get the rpms right.
