I'df definately check the fluid level first. It is "sealed". That means that the trans probably has a plug instead of a dipstick. You will have to find someone with the dipstick from a parts car, or get one from the dealership. The V8Q's were the same way. I have a dipstick in mine now. It is a good idea to change it as well. There is a good chance it hasn't been changed yet.

It also happens when I forward from a stop going
from a light.

But the flare happens when going forward as well.

I really babied the car so as not to create that,
but it seems to happen with very LITTLE gas pedal
more, which caused me to suspect a timing adjustment
issue.
