Maybe. It depends on your better half. :)

Most of my knowledge comes from the V8 list, where automatic
transmissions, leaks, and "bad" seem to merge; the problem
in the V8 is a worn seal which lets differential(?) fluid get
into transmission fluid, which ends up ruining the tranny.
Here are the schools of thought, which may or may not apply
to your A6:

1. Drop the transmission pan, which will cause lots of fluid
to spill out. There will still be lots of fluid left in the
torque converter. Replace the pan, re-fill with fluid. Then
run the car for a while (1 hour? 1 day? 1 week?) and repeat.
Do this 3 or 4 times. It won't get all the old fluid out,
but it will put new fluid into the system.

2. Drop the cooling lines and flush the system. Basically
this means open up the lines, put the output into a bucket,
put the input into clean fluid, and run the car. The theory
is that instead of cycling through the cooler, old fluid
is pumped out, while new fluid is sucked in. Continue until
the fluid being pumped out is clean.

3. Take it to a transmission shop, where they have the machine
to flush it right. I suspect it does Option 2, but better.

Also, go to www.audifans.com and do a Google search of the
site for: transmission flush flushing
