It won't go into gear!!

Fact: Full clutch depression does not disengage hydraulic clutch.
Question: Was the clutch depressed when the engine or transmission was out
of the car? There is a warning in the Bentley for my 4KQ about this, but NO
MENTION OF HOW OR WHY this could cause a problem. It is a hint that loosely
relates clutch operation problems with work on the engine or transmission.
BECAUSE OF THE ABOVE WARNING, THIS PART OF YOUR POST WORRIES ME: "Just a
week before I first put the engine back
together (first week of march), I was able to shift
nice and smooth into all gears."
SOUNDS LIKE YOU (might have) INVOKED THE WRATH OF BOTH THE BENTLEY AND THE
QUANTUM DIETIES. Can't say they didn't try to warn you. It is right there
in their bible.
I'd also examinine the path of the hydraulic clutch assembly in relation to
the rebuilt head, and try to figure out the most likely place that allowed
the clutch assembly to get damaged/tampered with by the head R/R.
I'd suspect air in the hydraulic path, if the clutch pedal did not return
fully, but you say it feels exactly the same.........
