Except that some of you are still talking about the wrong hose. Half
of you have been wasting bandwidth because you didn't read the
original question. A 5k doesn't have the hose in question, only the
200. It's not the "michelin man" hose from the top of the intercooler
to the throttle body that is the problem. Instead, it's the one from
the turbo outlet to the bottom of the intercooler. In the 5k it's a
single J shaped part. In the 200 it's a u shaped hose, a "silencer"
that contains a foam piece, and a single hump hose. It's the hump
hose that cracks due to pressure, age and movement of the engine
relative to the intercooler. On the 5k the entire J flexes when the
drive train moves while on the 200 all the movement takes place at
the hump hose.
I'm not sure what the "silencer" actually does or why you'd want it.
I want to hear my turbo and I can even with the silencer installed.
What it really seems to do is trap oil in the intake tract which in
the 5k part ends up as a puddle in the bottom of the J. While that
seems like a good thing, the 5k part probably flows better and I have
yet to see one go bad vs the hump hose on the 200. When my hump hose
cracks bad enough, I'm swapping out the whole affair in favor of a
used J hose off of my parts 5k.
