abrupt coolant losses

Don't forget that most VAG cars also have a switch in
the coolant tank to warn you that it's low.

However, in the case of a blown hose, it does not give
you much lead time to shut down.  Especially if the
failure takes place in rush hour on a crowded freeway.

Or if the wife fails to acknowlege the little red
blinky if the rad. fan seized up on you...
