BTW I'm not recommending the original poster of this thread buy the car.
There's a big difference between knowing what you're getting into and having
an owner who can take care of the problems and buying one because you assume
it is in good shape and will be maintenance-free. Plus the other reasons
that others have talked about. Buying one of this vintage means that you
have just brought it into your household not just as transportation, but to
some extent as a hobby or an avocation. If you don't want to take that fork
in the road, definitely do not buy the car. I'm lucky to have a modicum of
mechanical/electrical skill and enough tools and workspace to do the
necessary work to keep the car in shape.
