Not exactly new info.  About six years ago I and lister Paul Fernandes
tried getting the parts for a convertible conversion but had a bit of a
communications problem with the Chinese.  Since then Paul has sourced
type 44 scale models, tail lights and lots more, all excellent quality
ASAIK.  
The Chinese made production type 44 convertibles and Langs, something
Audi itself never did.  While Audi did make a V8Q lang, it was far
removed from being a production type44 like the Chinese stretch.  VW also
gave FAW the stampings for several VW models too.
