**** Depending on circumstances, you can drive quite a ways on just the
battery.
No headlight use.
Highway driving so blower motor dont go on.
Shut off all accessories like radio, vent fan, etc.
Recently, I was 110 miles from home when my alternator went out. I drove 60
miles, recharged the battery for an hour at a service station and drove
another 50 miles home. I might have made it all the way home without a
battery charge. But at the time, caution seemed like the better part of
valor . . $10 for battery charge vs a $150 tow.
My charging problem turned out to be dirty contacts on the voltage
regulator.
