problems with 2 Types of ABS

Hi all
having a good weekend?

here's what i've been up to
Type 1 Antilock Brake System

after messing about with the ABS on the 89 200 TQA of
and on since march
this year i think that I have found the fault.
I went through the bentley test procedures as if the
system had failed
every ABS2 LED test and all was ok.
i checked the sensors, but since the ABS off light
would never ever go
out, I figured that it was something else
I also checked the earths and the famous type 44 live
splice. also all ok

that kind of left the control box so i took it apart
hoping to see some
sign of damage that would end the diagnostic process.

well the control box looks like it has suffered some
water damage.
In fact it looks like it has seen some service with
the navy
................fitted to the outside of a submarine
or something.
the bottom 2cm (near the floor pan) of both boards AND
the frame are
corroded to buggery and back.
I assume that this is probably where the problem is
;-)

so, before i go trawling the scrap yards i have a
question.
the ABS control box is 857 907 379C so an URQ part
I am guessing that it will probably be the same box on
most, if not all
audis of the same vintage.
is this true? are the quattro and FWD boxes different
or will anything
of the same age do?

Type 2 Annoying Beeping Sound
having fought with the antilock wiring for a few
hours, i am getting a
bit annoyed by the 'chime' relay thing.
I don't find it necessary for the car to tell me when
the door is open
or the lights are on or the key is in the ignition.
I am a big boy and can work it out for myself.
are there any problems with removing the chime relay?
(then smashing it
apart with a lump hammer)
does it interact with any other systems or can i just
pull it out and
drive around in blissful ignorance of how may doors
are open?

bye

geraint
