Even more interesting than the 4.3 Chevy V6 would be the 3.8 Buick V6 Turbo.
A less expensive, yet still decent horsepower would be the new 3.5liter I5 engine from the Chevy Colorado pickup (and it's GMC cousin). Although you would have to get some measurements to ensure that the engine isn't too long. Otherwise the 2.8liter I4 from the same series of pickups would provide good horsepower/torque with great reliability. The Chevy/GMC line of large inline engines (4.2-I6, 3.5-I5, 2.8-I4) are some well designed engines.

Someone, somewhere, somewhen sent me a CAD file for a GM V-6 engine to Audi 5 speed tranny adaptor plate. The GM V-6 is shorter and a bit lighter than the V-8, and might make a more plausible conversion into a 4KQ. Personally, I'd still like to see a three rotor Mazda in a type 44, but that isn't going to happen either any time soon. Best Regards, Mike Arman
