Thanks.  Yes, forgot about the bracket.  I did remove it and that was probably the easiest part of the job.

I tried it with the hose on about 4 times before giving up.  My buddy took the hose off and it seemed easier to place the t-stat in place.

as for bleeding, you should bleed with the heater on to circulate
coolant through it as well and remove any air in those lines. fwiw,
bentley says to let the car idle until the level stabilizes vs
stopping and starting. there is also a bleed screw in one of the
heater core hoses in the header panel by the master cylinder. i didnt
crack mine when i flushed my coolant. i did 'burp' [squeeze] all of
the hoses vigorously to try to remove any air pockets while it was
idling. i also loosened several hose clamps when the car got got to
let some air/ fluid escape. BE CAREFUL working around hot coolant.

as for why heat no worky, was the heater on? dumb but ovbvious
question. look at the bright side - the inside definitely wont get hot
unless the engine does so youve solved 1 major problem. it could be
controller or heater core.. the heater core is probably a nightmare to
r+r so here's hoping for a simpler fix..
