The 1.8T engine and how the oil filter is laid out is no different whether
you have a 1997 or
a 2001. Don't do this with the engine hot, but IIRC, it's easier to reach w/
the coolant reservoir
detached. From below, it's a weird reach. That's where the filter wrench
becomes really
important.
