If you need to search, the proper name of the manufacturer is Aisin.

I've not heard too much bad about the transmission, but that's my limited
knowledge of
the automatic transmission.

If you're concerned with resale, I think the value edition is a bad choice-
most people will want the premium features when buying a Passat- moonroof,
nice stereo, heated seats, leather, etc.
