Matt,
As I recall, the problem started when you moved the glovebox (but didn't
remove it) in order to gain access to something else. And now there's a
change when you pulled the glove box down again. I suspect you've done
wiring damage (or aggravated a prior existing condition) which has rendered
the computer or one of the primary wiring systems inop. Clearly 8 Volts
isn't enough, so you've narrowed down where to look.
If it were me, I'd stop poking around under the hood and concentrate on
where you've found symptoms (glove box/computer area).
