A bad O2 sensor won't cause "massive hesitation", and you shouldn't
be jury-rigging things to get the car going. This will only cause
problems further down the line.

I strongly suggest you put everything back the way it should be,
wiring up any missing sensors, reset any screws/adjustments to their
"default" position, if any. You can either spend frustrating hours
randomly stabbing in the dark, or hours following a method you know
will eventually get you to the source of the problem. You cannot
troubleshoot things from an unknown stance. You'll have the added
benefit of knowing everything you checked is OK and once you find the
problem, the motor should be running perfectly.

Once everything is back to "how it should be", follow the Bentley
troubleshooting procedures/flowchart; if it won't start, follow the
no-start chart, etc. Do not skip ANY prerequisite steps unless
absolutely necessary; they're all there for a reason. Don't go
measuring currents if the battery isn't charged, etc.
