Alternator/Starter Wiring

It seems advantageous to have battery under back seat because of setting the
weight lower and distributing away from the already heavy front end to over
rear wheels.
Is there ever any problem with those long heavy gauge cables from the
battery to the engine compartment? I live in Toronto which has salt spread
on the roads in winter.
