can't get engine lid to open - '88 80Q

by hood struts-------you mean those devices about 30 cm away from the hinges
that help keep the hood up?
If so, my hood struts seem to be weak, I have to use a broom stick to keep
hood open, (so my car is like most cars with those long bars folded down
over radiator used to keep hood opened), maybe because of the cold weather
in January hood is not staying opened, in November 2005 the hood stayed
open.
