Odometer quit, electronic version in 89 100

Hum, if there¹s no metal cap, then you have to risk it or send it in for
repair. Bummer
In the 20V coupe, the Speedo's back is clear plastic and you can see the
gears and the electric stepping motor
that runs it all. Wish I could help more. Maybe you could post a picture of
it.

I'm stuck here... I have the speedo in hand but cannot see how to get inside
to the gears.  I'm afraid the 100/200/5000 speedo assembly is completely
different from the 4000/80/90.  It appears I need to remove the needle and
face to get inside and it feels like I'm about to break something.  There
doesn't seem to be a "cap" as described below by John.  Gentle prying
doesn't do it for me.
 
Am I correct that I need to remove the needle to get inside?  If so, how do
I get it off?
