Allow me to clarify. The rebuilt alternator had a new VR, and I've replaced several VR's throughout the years. That is, with new ones. I put a lot of miles on these cars, and therefore had to replace VR's throughout the years. I always put new ones on.
What I was saying is, even a new one doesn't last me longer than 60k, and therefore, I don't think two years use in a more heavily stressed environment is anything beyond normal. Two months maybe, but not two years.

I believe what they were talking about was new VRs with no miles on them...
