Crank lock tool sources?

Yes, on the 5 cyl. It's a little tricky to get it positioned the first
time, but the basic idea is that the hooked part of the spring bar protrudes
into the well in the center of the pully and the boss/projection that's cast
into the well bears against the hook edge. The other end of the bar rests
on the snub mount towards the passenger side; obviously one needs to
consider the relationship between the springbar end and the snub mount with
respect to pulley removal or installation.

Not sure exactly what you mean, but the engine was installed in the car
when I did this. I've only ever used this technique on 4kq's, and for that
car one needs to remove the grille first. I've used both a breaker bar and
air after getting the pulley locked up with the spring bar; the breakerbar
needed a nice long cheater to work.

If that doesn't answer your question, drop me a followup and I'll try and
help you out :)

Best,
Robert

PS: I can't claim credit for 'discovering' this method; IIRC I first read
about it in the Audi World 4000/Coupe forum.
