Well, it is probably doable (AudiConnection put a V8 into a Type 44
Avant: http://www.audiconnection.com/conversion_pictorial_4.htm)
but that's a lot of work for... what?

If you like the turbo because you want to upgrade it for power,
I wouldn't expect the the auto transmission to last long.
Especially with modded a 20V turbo driving it.

The 91 20V TQA is more desirable/collectible than the earlier
10V turbo; maybe one of those would make a better candidate.

If you just want a wagon, Audi made the 100 in Avant form from
'92-95+, with FWD, V6, and automatic. The V6 puts out reasonable
power, but lack upgrades. But the C4 bodied avants probably don't
do it for you.

If you do go through with it, I'd leave the quattro connected;
the unconnected rear diff still has parasitic losses, so why
not keep it connected to take advantage of the quattro the same
way you get to take advantage of ABS -- when you need it.
